A miscommunication meant the umpires believed the target for North Otago to win the game was 16 instead of 21 so the game ceased when the score reached 16. The error was not discovered until some considerable time after play had ceased so it was not possible to resume the game for the final 5 runs to be scored but North Otago were still considered to have won the game by 9 wickets.
