Wellington were strengthened by the inclusion of GT Bayly (Taranaki), WE Barton and CS Cross (Wanganui) and H Mace (Victoria).
After the match an eighty yards foot-race was held between J Selby and James Wood, a local man for £ a side. Wood gave Selby two yards start and overhauled him at twenty yards winning easily by three yards.
